Persistance

This TED talk was recently shared on the I Am Other facebook page, and it is worth checking out! At 16 years old, Kelvin Doe has accomplished more than most people. At the age of 10, this young inventor started scavenging for scrap electronics parts from dump sites.

Kelvin, together with his team, was a winner of Global Minimum's Innovate Salone 2012 -- the inaugural high school innovation challenge in Sierra Leone. He had built a radio station for his community out of recycled materials, in addition to homemade batteries and a generator. Kelvin was selected to travel to the U.S. in 2012, where he was invited to speak at the "Meet the Young Makers" panel at the World Maker Faire 2012 in New York.

Kelvin officially became the youngest ever "visiting practitioner" with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) International Development Initiative. At MIT, he presented his inventions to students in two D-Lab classes, engaged with community members at MIT, and participated in hands-on research at the MIT Media Lab. He has also lectured to undergraduate engineering students at Harvard College.

USC’s Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation

Dr. Dre (nee Andre Young) and Jimmy Iovine recently gave a large donation to the University of Southern California (USC) in order to create the Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation at the University.

The $70 million donation provide a four-year program taught by members of USC’s Thorton School of Music, Roski School of Fine Arts, Marshall School of Business, and Viterbi School of Engineering and focus on teaching undergraduates engineering, computer science, fine arts, graphic design, business, and leadership training so that they may be successful in the Music Industry.

“Academy students will have the freedom to move easily from classroom to lab, from studio to workshop individually or in groups, and blow past any academic or structural barriers to spontaneous creativity,” said Erica Muhl, the first director of the new academy which will open in 2014 with 25 students, in a statement.

Beyonce has a lot to offer

It seems we live in the era of Open Letters. Anyone with an opinion and internet access feels the need to publicly reach out to celebrities/entertainers/public figures to share their personal opinion, for which no one ever asked.  Usually, I am not one to waste my time with these attention-seekers, but this Open Letter to Michelle Obama about Beyone was a little much.

My first question is WHY are you addressing Michelle Obama? Do you run to one friend to address the behavior of another? It seems childish and silly, if you have an issue with Beyonce, and you actually think anyone cares, address Beyonce.  Excuse me for being harsh, but I hate people like this. Seriously, find something better to do with your time! If you are truly a journalist, find something better to write.  This is an obvious cry for attention.

In regards to Beyonce's costume choice for the Ms. Carter tour, in my opinion is not even that serious and she has most likely worn something way more revealing than than that but because it has the nipple print its a big deal. Is this really the first discovery of nipples? And do you honestly think those are her perfectly symmetric nipples? The dumbest thing about this is that this is BEYONCE we're talking about! Regarded as one of the sexiest women ALIVE! She could walk in the room in a mechanic jumpsuit and the world would think it is sexy! So never is she just doing this for attention or degrading herself like the writer has alluded!

If the author knows anything about Beyonce she is a female BOSS! She runs shit! NOBODY tells her what to do, she's even her OWN manager! Jay-Z has NEVER been her manager as the author leads the readers to believe. She fired her own father to gain control of her career. A song like "Bow Down Bitch" was a tribute to her hometown, Houston, which if the author had done her reasearch she would've understoof.  It is also a statement clearly saying "Bow Down", because Beyonce's about to come back hard with a new album, and as history indicates when she drops an album its a WRAP: nobody else is even noticed!

So what would Beyonce be teaching a 13 year old girl? BE your own boss, don't depend on a man, live life how you want to, and don't live life how bloggers or whoever else that wants to hide behind a computer tells you to.

The crazy thing about stuff like this is that you'll never see bloggers like this write and praise people like Janelle Monae, who doesn't wear revealing cloths and is a excellent performer and can sing better than 90% of woman in the entertainment industry! Why waste your time talking about the people you DON'T want as role models? You're just bringing these people MORE attention. If there is an honest concern about finding strong role models that don't flaunt their sexuality then WRITE ABOUT THEM! Bring those artists to the forefront, give them the attention.

Nobody likes when you push boundaries, stay at the top, stay consistent, and do it your own way! Beyonce is bout to sell out ANOTHER WORLD TOUR while they sit behind the computer writing bullshit!
lol that's all!

Supreme x Clark 2013

Desert boots have been enjoying their time in the spotlight for a few seasons now, the simple silhouette lends itself nicely to both a casual and slightly more formal fit, but this summer Supreme and Clarks have teamed up again and really upped the ante!  The new collection sticks with the nubuck suede, but moves away from the solid colors with tonal printed map pattern on the upper boot and corresponding laces rounding out a monochromatic scheme in Supreme red, forest green and sand.  The shoes release Thursday, May Ninth, in select US cities and will hit Japan on the eleventh.

Dope talent

Although it's not the right season, I had to share this dope video with y'all. Check out my friend covering Carol of the Bells, she's incredibly gifted!

New Music: Twerk It, Busta Rhymes

People are already calling this the song of the summer, although it is being met with some very mixed reviews! Busta dropped the single off his forthcoming album, his first after signing with YMCB, this evening. Twerk it, produced by Pharrell, was made available through Hot 97's Funkmaster Flex.

First Listen: 100$ Bill

Today, we finally get a listen of 100$ Bill from Jay-Z off the Great Gatsby Soundtrack which drops next Tuesday. The song, like all the others on the soundtrack, integrates elements of the 20s era into today's music to create an incredibly innovative sound.  What is super dope and unexpected is the media outlet that first made the entire soundtrack available - NPR - big moves for hip-hop!
